There is a series of new mobile phones that is announced during the Mobile World Congress this year at Barcelona.
Here’s an quick overview of the handsets that has been announced.
Asus Padfone
Features Snapdragon’s new dual-core S4 chip, an Adreno 225 GPU, Ice Cream Sandwich and an 8-megapixel rear camera with an LED flash, f/2.2 autofocusing lens and a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED qHD display. It’s trick is it’s ability to dock to a 10.1-inch tablet display.
Samsung Galaxy Beam
The pico projector/phone is capable of shining a 50-inch, 720p picture on any flat surface. The Beam has a 15-Lumen lamp and includes a 4.0-inch, 480 x 800 display; 1GHz dual-core processor; 5-megapixel main camera with autofocus, flash, and video capture, as well as 1.3-megapixel user-facing camera. It has quad-band GSM/EDGE and HSPA 14Mbps cellular support, Bluetooth 3.0, and Wi-Fi. It runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1
The second entry in the company’s pen- and touch-capable Galaxy Note line. Now that it’s here in a full-size tablet with a 10.1-inch screen. In addition shipping with Android 4.0, the Note 10.1 also includes various software features that let it take full advantage of the pen and larger screen. The S Planner calendar and S Note apps now make better use of the additional screen real estate, and the Note comes with pen-compatible versions of Adobe’s Photoshop Touch and Ideas apps.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1)
Paling comparatively to Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, Samsung announced the Generation 2 of its Galaxy Tablets range. The specs are similar with screen resolution of its LCD of 1280 x 800, the 10.1 features the same 1Ghz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity, front and rear cameras (VGA and 3-megapixels, respectively) and 21Mbps HSPA+ connectivity (For 3G model). It comes equipped with a 7,000 mAh batterywhich will hopefully ensure stamina that’s similar to its predecessor. The slate is loaded with TouchWiz-flavored ICS Android 4.0, and will be offered in 16 and 32GB models (expandable by up to 32GB if you supply your own microSD card).
Galaxy S (Player) WiFi 4.2
Packs a 4.2-inch WVGA (480 x 800) screen, runs Gingerbread 2.3 and has dual cameras (2-megapixels ’round back and VGA for video calls). Bluetooth 3.0, USB 2.0 and WiFI 802.11 b/g/n
HTC One X
Features the Tegra 3 quad-core processor with four 1.5GHz main cores and a secondary core for low-power tasks. It boasts a 4.7-inch Super LCD display with 1280 x 720 pixels for full HD resolution. The 8-megapixel camera is aided by an ImageChip to help process images faster. This phone can take pictures once every 0.7 seconds. It comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and Sense 4.0 from HTC.
HTC One S
The display drops down to 4.3 inches and qHD (960 x 540) resolution, but it has a dual-core SnapDragon S4 processor, and substitutes plasma-coated aluminum for the One X’s polycarbonate shell. It has the same camera and same software as the One X.
HTC One V
A middle-of-the-road smartphone from HTC that still offers good looks and solid features at an affordable price point. The phone has a 3.7-inch display with 800 x 480 pixels, a 5-megapixel camera, a 1GHz S2 SnapDragon processor, and Android 4.0.
Huawei Ascend D Quad
Huawei claims that the Ascend D Quad is the fastest smartphone ever built. It’s using its own processor (which shocked many people!) –rather than one from Nvidia or Qualcomm, and include a 4.5-inch 1280 x 720 HD display, 8-megapixel camera with 1080p HD video capture, and a 1.3-megapixel user-facing camera. Huawei plans to introduce several variants of this phone in a number of markets during the second quarter.
Huawei MediaPad 10 FHD
The first with a 10-inch screen to be powered by a 1.5GHz K3 quad-core processor, this is an Android 4.0 10? tablet with audio-visual entertainment features. It has an impressive 2 GB of RAM but there are only 8 gigs of on-board storage, which is expendable with the microSD card slot. It has a FullHD-worthy 1920 x 1200 resolution resulting into a pixel density of around 226 pixels per inch, which is more than what any ultrabook, tablet or netbook out there can match. It offers an aluminum unibody construction, it weighs 598 g and is just 8.8 mm thick.
Sony Xperia P
Sony added two phones to its Xperia NXT line, and the P is the first of them. It has a 4.0-inch Reality Display with Sony’s BRAVIA Engine, a 1GHz dual-core processor, 16GB of storage, 8-megapixel camera with HD video recording, and NFC. It ships with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and owners will need to wait until later in the second quarter for Android 4.0.
Sony Xperia U
Aimed at the entry-level range with a 3.5-inch Reality Display with BRAVIA Engine, 1GHz dual-core processor, and 5-megapixel camera HD video recording. It also has “xLoud” stereo sound. The Xperia U has the same Android 2.3 OS out of the box as the Xperia P, and will see Android 4.0 later in the year.
LG Optimus 3D
Runs on a 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor. The device is HSPA compatible with speeds upto 21 Mbps. While the device runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, it is slated to get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich shortly. It has WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and dual-cameras, with the rear camera rated at 5 megapixels. The Optimus HD has a big 4.3″ panel (with 3D support) and what LG has named ‘NOVA’ – display that runs brighter.
LG Optimus 4X HD
LG’s new flagship device runs on 1.5GHz quad core Tegra 3 chip with 4-plus-1 technology and has a 4.7″ HD 720×1280 screen, Tegra 3 Quad core processor, 8MP camera, ultra fast shutter, 1.3MP Front Facing camera, Android 4.0 and a 2,140mAh battery. Not forgetting that it has 16GB internal storage, 1 GB RAM and is 8.9mm slim.
LG Optimus Vu
Features a 1024×768 res, stylus-friendly 5-inch IPS LCD display, a 1.5GHz dual core CPU, 8MP camera, LTE, 2080mAh battery and Android 2.3 in a slim 8.5mm thick frame. An upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich is promised within three months of its launch, currently scheduled for March
LG L3 , L5, L7
LG took the opportunity to announces its new, stylish ‘Optimus L’ range Android smartphones during the MWC 2012 . The L range has three different models in line including the L3, the L5, and the L7. The Optimus L3 will be released running Android 2.3 (always disappointing hearing this at WMC 2012), while the L5 and L7 will both be released with Android 4.0. The L7 does have a 1GHz Processor, but the other two both have 800MHz. The sizes of the devices are spread out very evenly. The consumer can choose from a size range of a 3.2” screen on the L3 and a 4.0” and a 4.3” on the L5. All three devices have a soft-ish mtterial back cover, plus a shiny chrome like screen lining
